The Democrats have a huge messaging problem on their hands. They want to get rid of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) branch of Homeland Security, because they are “championing” llegal immigration. This is not a smart political move.

Along with the Democrats’ “Abolish ICE” midterm election platform comes the natural consequences of the actions of Illegals, who are far more likely to commit crimes, and especially violent crimes. The Democrats are running the hard risk that they’ll have to answer for the sick criminal acts of illegals. They’re going to OWN this issue like nothing else come the fall, and it’s going to undercut any chance they have of winning the mid-terms. In fact, it reminds me of a cautionary tale from the recent past: Todd Akin.

Does anyone remember Todd Akin? He was a conservative political candidate who ran against Claire McCaskill for Missouri’s Senate seat back in 2012. He made anti-abortion comments that women who are raped can’t get pregnant and he was rightly hammered for it (and lost his Senate bid by a 2-1 margin). But his comments damaged the entire GOP field in the process, because the leftist media tried to smear every single conservative with his statements. It was dirty pool tactics, but it’s the kind of political gaffes both parties should avoid.

And that brings us back to the Democrats and ICE. Jim Kenney, the Mayor of Philadelphia, pushed to make the Philly a sanctuary city for illegals. He did a (now infamous) happy dance video with some of his staffers after they legally got sanctuary status. I knew that it was going to backfire on them (separate political notice: don’t be a smarmy shitfuck and pull stunts like this), and hoo-boy, it has. Brace yourselves, because it’s about to get ugly.

Turns out that in 2014, a Honduran illegal immigrant, Juan Ramon Vasquez, was released from Philly jail, in spite of ICE asking the city to hold him on detainer and then hand him over (to ICE) for deportation. Of course, Vasquez returned to the US in 2016 and subsequently raped a child. He’s now finally in jail for that crime. (and I hope he gets what’s coming to him). None of this happens if the city had done it’s job in 2014.

That happy dance the Mayor did sure looks foolish now, doesn’t it? He now looks like a smarmy laughing stock. And wait! It gets worse!

So, the Mayor basically wants to blame ICE for everything, and pretend that nothing bad really happened. Pardon me, while I get a wee bit angry here.

Dear Mr. Asshole Mayor: You let a kid get raped because you need to fake votes and stuff ballot. You’re not sorry that a kid got raped. You’re only interested in saving your own fucking ass from the political consequences of your shitheel political party’s failure to reach out to normal Americans. And you probably think you’ll get away with it. 

Your party won’t get away with it. Your happy dance is now the stuff of political infamy- it’s going to cost the Democrats a fuck-ton in the fall.  I hope you enjoy every fucking piece of karma that’s coming to you.

And this brings me full circle back to Todd Akin. Everyone in politics rightly says that you should avoid being Todd Akin. But the Democrats are going to OWN the negatives with their sanctuary city/abolish ICE platform. They can’t escape the reality of illegal criminal activity, and they can’t smugly blame ICE for their own fuckups. Their platform is already a lead balloon in national polling- and it will only sink further the more we hear about illegals breaking the law in new and disgusting ways. And it’s going to be one of the big albatrosses that destroy the party’s mid-term chances.

And I might just do a happy dance when they lose, bigly.
